Fragmented Memories and this piece, Bonded Memories, are two works that are profoundly connected. Each shows a pattern based on how logs are milled into lumber. The paper pieces used to make the pattern have been embossed from a slice of a 300-year-old white oak tree that fell in Winterthur’s Browns Meadow during a storm in August 2020. Fragmented Memories is designed to be disassembled by its viewers, piece by piece, and taken home so that art can be more accessible to all and to connect each person to nature, each other, and to a greater whole. Bonded Memories connects those pieces, tree rings, and memories back to itself and its community.
