Browns Meadow Tree – Rob Finn

Browns Meadow Tree
Rob Finn
Watercolor
2020

Rob Finn’s tree portraits present trees as unique characters. His work considers how trees affect their surroundings and the viewer. Inspired by Andrew Wyeth and John Singer Sargent, Finn brings a modern sensibility to landscape painting through a fresh palette and fluid sense of space.

Browns Meadow Tree is one of several Winterthur tree portraits Finn created as part of his Maker-Creator Fellowship in 2020 and 2021 at Winterthur. The actual tree depicted in this painting was lost to storms in August of 2020, leaving a changed landscape in Browns Meadow. White oak from another fallen tree on the Winterthur property has been salvaged to create the painting’s frame.
